Lands Ministry to Modify Survey Plans

The Technical Consultant at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning (MLHCP), Dr. Alfred Bockarie has said that the ministry will start to use computer to do land survey plan rather than the manual method which is being used since 1961.

His statement came at workshop organised by the Ministry to capacitate 10 employees on the use of computer to do plotting and layout of survey plan.

Dr. Bockarie added that the training would improve service delivery, effective workforce and to improve standards on plan production and layout, adding that the training is in line with the Government of Sierra Leone midterm development goals.

Bockarie said that the Ministry is also working to reduce land conflicts, creation of more land plans, development of land information system and production of plot service, adding all these reformations would increase the speed and accuracy of plan production in order to reduce the conflict at the Ministry.

He mentioned that all the plan of the Ministry could be achieve if the department of survey and country planning and the technical division are capacitated.

“If the plotting process is slow at the ministry,it would also affect the overall plan processing process, adding that staffs at the ministry since 1961 are plotting survey plan manually,” he said.

Bockarie cited that with the support of the Minister Dr. TuradSenesie, they had been able to purchase 10 laptop computers whichthe ten committed staff used for training, adding that they are going to start producing plan in digitalized form only in the western area before it would be taken across the country.

“The success that we would achieve in the western area would motivate the expansion to other region in the country. At the end of the training all the over 200 land survey plan that the ministry were unable to produce because of capacity would be produce in a minimal time,” Dr. Bockarie said.
