NCVS Holds 39th Graduation Ceremony

The National Centre for Vocational Studies (NCVS) on Sunday, March 37,2022 held it 39th graduation ceremony, where 20 graduands were awarded certificates at a convocation ceremony held at the Mount Zion Pentecostal Church in Freetown.

Since NCVS its establishment in 1983, the institution has trained thousands of women who are gainfully employed in Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) and other private institutions. It has been very instrumental in providing the middle level manpower in Sierra Leone.  The institution is offering courses in Business, Secretarial and Computer Studies.

The acting Principal of NCVS, Mrs Mariama Jabbie said that the graduands are well trained and qualify for the present job market. He called on public and private institutions to employ those who had graduated from NVCS.

She mentioned that even though they were able to do the graduation ceremony, the institution is currently constrained with accommodation as they are currently occupying the Home and Economic classroom of Dr. S.M. Broderick School on Ferguson Street.

Jabbie cited that squatter have occupied a piece of land situated at Tower Hill in Freetown which the Ministry of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment had allocated to the National Centre for Vocational Studies (NCVS), adding that squatters had prevented the institution from undertaking its building project on the said land.

She also noted that the centre is a government assisted institution, noting that the institution needed more financial support from government to rebrand to its glorious days.

She said that in the past the school had been struggling with accommodation and finances, and that had watered down the student admission rate in the institution.

One of the graduands from the business studies department, Finda Anike Ilori said that, it’s a great for her to have completed her studies and now   is well equipped to face the current job market. Ilorie admonished other ladies who had sat to  the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to enroll into the institution.
