The Ministry of Health and Sanitations (MoHS) on Saturday April 9, 2022, held its first recognition award night ceremony at the Bintumani Hotel in Freetown. The award ceremony was held in recognition of individuals, institutions and international health partners who had made gainful contributions to improve the health sector in Sierra Leone.
Individual, institutions and international partners were awarded based on their governance, leadership, accountability, logistics management, supply chain, hard work and commitment, and skills to reduce maternal mortality.
Kailahun and Port Loko were awarded as the best District Health Medical Team (DHMT), BO Government Hospital and Ola During Children Hospital were awarded as best Secondary and Tertiary Hospital, respectively. The Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) was also recognized as media house that promotes health issues.
In his speech, the Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh said that it wonderful to recognize health workers and partners who had work remarkably to ensure that they provide quality healthcare services in the country.
The Vice President noted that the recommendation put together by expert during the 3-day summit will be used to address the looming health challenges and improve on deliverables. He assured all awardees that he would conduct on the spot visit at their various health facilities.
The Minister of Health and Sanitations, Dr. Austin Demby said that the award is to say thanks to deserving awardees for their excellent job in contributing to the health sector, adding that it is also an assurance of quality health service in the country.
Dr. Demby added Sierra Leone’s Health Summit was emulated by the Liberia Government, and that they would be having theirs in weeks’ time. He admonished all health practitioners and partners to giver their best in health delivery.
