Police Officer Testifies in Murder Trial

As Preliminary Investigation continues on the murder matter between the state and Lance Corporal  Gbassay Kargbo and Amadu Bilor Jalloh, the fourth prosecution witness, Abu Kargbo   on Monday May 16, 2022, testified that he saw what happened but decided to keep salience quiet in order to save his life.

The two accused are before the court for murdering Ahmed Boie Kamara.

It was alleged that on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Madonkeh village, Newton, the accused persons conspired with other persons unknown to murder Ahmed Boie Kamara.

Led in his examination in chief by Assistant Superintendent of police Christiana Davis Cole, the fourth prosecution witness Abu Kargbo recognized the accused persons.

He said on March 9, 2022, he went  fishing  expedition when he heard someone shouting “una dae kill me oh”.

He said he went to the scene and saw the first and second accused beating the deceased and using invectives.

The witness said after beating the deceased the accused took their motorbike and went away.

He said from where he stood, he heard another motorbike coming, and one Mohamed Kamara asked the deceased what happened to him, and the deceased told him that he was beaten by the accused.

He said Mr. Kamara backed the deceased and rode away.

Testing the evidence in cross-examination by defense counsel RA Nylender, the witness said he know the accused persons on the date of the alleged incident. He said he never tell the police what he had explained to the court because he was afraid.

The witness confirmed seeing the deceased being manhandled by the accused persons.

He said the alleged incident took place close by the river.

The witness told the court that he decided to come forward to explain what he saw to clear his mind.

“My Lord I explain about the incident to the third witness who advised me to come and tell the court,” he stated.   He said when the accused are carrying out their deed the area was peaceful.

 Having heard the evidence and cross-examination of the fourth witness, Magistrate Sahr Kekura adjourned the matter to Wednesday, May 18, 2022 for further hearing.
