The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has said in a statement that aggrieved students alleged to have paid monies to unknown person, who do not have no connection to the Wellington Senior Secondary School (Orphanage) for them to be assisted to take the ongoing West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
MBSSE also said in the statement that, all affected students alleged to have paid monies ranging from Le, 600,000 to Le, 950,000 as registration fees to their agents/middleman to sit to the exams.
This came after a group of aggrieved students stormed the Ministry on Monday, claiming to have been denied access to take the ongoing West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Education (WASSCE), and that their names were not found on the admission notice that was sent by WAEC to their school.
“Most of the pupils affected were not residents of Freetown. They traveled from other districts to Freetown for purposes of the exams only within the last two days. The Ministry will continue to work with the ACC and SLP to get a better understanding of the issue and will inform the public as appropriate,” MBSSE said.
According to MBSSE, all the names of the 700 candidates that were presented to West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) by the school through MBSSE were found on the admission notice that was downloaded from the West Africa Examination Council portal, and they are currently writing the exams.
