Africell has donated dozens of mattresses, food condiments, bundles of sachet water and a sum of Le 10, 800,000 for the welfare of a number of girls rendered homeless by a fire accident which burnt down the Boarding Home of Prosperity Girls High School at Rotifunk, Moyamba District. The Girls had resided the boarding school but in the evening of Sunday 30th January 2022, fire broke out there and burnt it down.
According to the Matron of the boarding home Madam Mami Saidu, although they could not ascertain the cause of the inferno, they were quick to evacuate the girls from the building with no loss of life.
Madam Saidu furthered that after the fire disaster at the boarding home they relocated the girls in various dwelling homes to salvage the accommodation crisis occasioned by the fire. Madam Saidu continued that during that period they had to continue the third term late due to the accommodation situation.
According to Marcus Badi the donation is to aid the boarding home in recovering some of the items they had lost in the fire incident. Marcus Badi continued that the Company is used to doing such philanthropic gestures citing the fire disaster that took place at the Susan’s Bay which left hundreds of people homeless.
Marcus Badi noted that the relationship between Africell and Prosperity Girls High school will not stop with the aforementioned donation but the Company will continue to give assistance to the school when the need arises because education is key in enhancing the development of the Country.
Marcus Badi also noted that such gestures are part of the Company’s corporate social responsibility and adhering to their corporate social responsibility as a Company is key and that they will continue to give support in every facet in the country.
Mr. Badi added that since the establishment of the Prosperity Girls High School on the 21st September 2009, the school has been doing well as they have been recognizing as one of the best boarding homes in the Country.
On his part, the Principal of the Prosperity Girls High school Moses Marcus Sonda thanked Africell Sierra Leone for the support and added that they were thrilled for such gesture. Moses Marcus Sonda said that since they encountered that tragic incident, they had been receiving support from various institutions.
Mr. Sonda added that as it stands the girls have returned in the boarding home as the renovation process had almost been completed.
He concluded by craving on the indulgence of other institutions to reciprocate such goodwill from Africell so that they can salvage the financial burden of the school’s administration.
