Man Jailed over Allegation of Theft

Abu Bakarr  Suma, 24,  was on Tuesday 7 June 2022 sent to prison by  Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No.1 over allegation of timber theft.

The accused was arraigned on two counts of obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused on a date unknown between March 15, to May 15, 2022, at Sanya Town in the Tambaka Chiefdom in the Karene Judicial District, with intent to defraud, obtained from Desmond Komba Yamba the sum of Le44,200,000 with the pretext that he has 226 timber logs for sale knowing same to be false.

In court two, the accused at the same place and date, with intent to defraud, obtained from the said complainant the sum of 27,200,000 as transportation cost with the pretext of transporting the 226 timber logs from Kamakwe to Freetown knowing same to be false.

The accused pleaded not guilty when the charges were read and explained to him.

However, Magistrate Kekura refused to admit bail the accused on bail.

The matter comes up again on June 13, 2022 for further hearing.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Isatu Gbassy Fofanah is prosecuting the matter.
