Accused to Face Trial at High Court

A 24-year-old Bockarie Kanneh has been committed to the high Court for proper trial after it was ruled by Magistrate Peter Gogra of Pademba road court No.6 in Freetown that he has a case to answer.

The accused was arraigned on one count charge of Fraudulent Conversion contrary to section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, on Sunday, August  8, 2021 at Juba Bridge, Lumley in Freetown, the accused  fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit one tricycle with registration number APP 942 valued Le30 million, property of the Freetown City Council.

The charge was read and explained to the accused person on his first appearance, and he pleaded not guilty.

Prosecution witness number three , Inspector Sylvanus Sawdy attached to the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters  in Freetown, recognized the accused person  in respect of the matter.

He recalled October23, 2021 when he was on duty the complainant was arrested and a report of Fraudulent conversion was made.

 He said he obtained statements from the complainant and witnesses on October 23, 2021, while voluntary caution statement was also obtained by Inspector Mansaray.

The statement of the accused was produced and tendered as

Magistrate Gogra while said he has looked at the evidence and he was of the view that the prosecution has adduced sufficient evidence to warrant a committal of the of the matter to the high court for trial.

He admitted the accused person to Le20 million bail bond with two sureties in like sum, and they must be resident in the western area, and must be gainfully employed.  Bail was to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
