Freetown City Council Supports Victims of September Disaster

The Freetown City Council Represented by Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyer has visited victims and sites affected by the 11th September 2022 disaster with support from an anonymous Sierra Leonean based in United Kingdom.

On behalf of the Council, the Mayor met with Adama who lost her nephew and whose father was badly injured.

The house next to Adama’s was completely destroyed so the Council representatives had to visit the survivor at his friend’s house outside of the community. Her bravery in the face of her loss was truly inspiring.

Next up was a visit to the site where a seven-year-old girl and her four-year-old brother died when a wall collapsed on them on the morning of September  11, 2022. The Mayor and other official from the Municipality of Freetown offered words of comfort to the parents, with the hope that the Council’s gesture of solidarity would give a little solace to them.

The Council emphasized that it continues to advocate for Land Use Planning and an environmentally sensitive Building Permit Regime to save lives and property.
