Brookfields City Crowned MRU Champion

Brookfields City Football Club on Sunday won the Mano River Union Trophy in a post-game penalty after a 1-1 draw during the 90 minutes at the KT Field Kingtom Freetown. The gala was organized in commemoration of their 49th, anniversary with a two day gala seeing four teams battling for the golden trophy.

During the first match, Spourloop came from behind to defeat Regent Olympic FC by 3-1 while Brookfields City won 2-0 against Angola Town. Early on Mano River Union in a comic match defeated UNDP in a post-game penalty after a 0-0 draw, and medals were given to both teams and referees. The match entertained a host of high personalities such as Amb. Sullay Daramy Chairman Late President Ahamed Tejan Kabba Foundation among other family members of H.E. Amb. Medina Wesseh.

Speaking to the teams, the MRU Secretary General H.E. Amb. Medina Wesseh, called on the participating teams to follow this year’s theme:  “Deepen the Cultures of peace by way of fair play and let the best team win.”

She went on to state that the football gala was part of the 49th anniversary of the Mano River Union which included Sierra Leone, Guinea, Libera, and Ivory Coast.

She further stated that in our sub-region, we must respect democratic values and continue to keep the peace.
