The Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) has extended the period of voter registration to two-day (7-8 October), the Commission said in a statement it put out on Monday.
The second phase of the voter registration exercise should end on October 4, 2022.
The Commission said that before the extension period commences, they will use two days (5-6 October) for the reconfiguration and deployment of equipment and staff.
The two-day extended window will be only limited to all 1,815 registration centres of the first phase of the voter registration exercise.
“The Commission is cognizant of the initial challenges encountered with setting up of the equipment and deployment of Staff which delayed opening of some centres across the country in the first phase of the registration process,” the Commission said.
The Commission noted that the voter registration inter-alia highlighted some challenges that affected the registration in some parts of the country and corrective measures were adopted without major interruptions to the voter registration exercise.
The Commission also appreciates Sierra Leoneans for their peaceful participation and encourages those who have not registered to take advantage of the extended window to exercise their right to register.
