Three remanded over alleged Land Fraud

Saio Kamara, Joseph Kamara and Josephine Kamara were on Monday October 17, 2022 sent to prison by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road court No: 1 over an allegation of fraud involving seven town lots of land at Hastings.

 The accused persons were arraigned on conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons on dates between Wednesday December 29, 2021 to Wednesday, 2nd January 2022 at No.31 Old Railway Line, Brookfields in Freetown,  with intent to defraud, conspired  with other persons unknown to Defraud Alhaji Ibrahim Sorie Jalloh  the sum Le (Old) 385,000,000 on the  pretext of having seven town lot of land  at Hastings in Freetown for sale, which was false.

The police further alleged on the second charge that the accused persons on December 29, 2021 with intent to defraud obtained the sum of Le (Old) 170,000,000 from the said Alhaji Ibrahim Sorie Jalloh by falsely pretending that they have seven town lots of land for sale knowing same to be false.

While in count three it is alleged that the accused  on February 2,  2022, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of Le (Old) 215,000,000 from Alhaji Ibrahim Sorie Jalloh, by falsely pretending that they  have a piece of seven town lots of land for sale knowing same to be false.  

The charges were read and explained to the accused persons, and they pleaded not guilty.

However, counsel representing the accused persons was absent while the prosecution witness was present.

Magistrate Ngegba refused bail and sent both accused persons to the male and female correctional facilities in Freetown.  The matter was adjourned to October 25, 2022 for further hearing.
