APC: Registration for Lower Level Elections Faulted

By Sallieu S. Kanu

If information within the Interim Transitional Governance Committee (ITGC) of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) is anything to go by, the ongoing registration of voters for the lower level election is reported to be troubled by series of flaws.

Reports are that the five -man Committee set up to conduct the registration process are allegedly disenfranchising voters by creating restrictions which could prevent members from participating in the process.

“The Five Man Committee set up to conduct the voter registration exercises instructed registrars to register only 100 people per wards and it was supposed to be an open registration that is not limited to numbers. it’s supposed to be open for all so people can register themselves as much as possible,” Alimamy Turay, a stakeholder r of the Party, said.

Also, it was reported that, in places including Kambia, Kailahun and Tonkolili, the registration didn’t commence as stipulated, which is a blatant disregard for the timeline set by the ITGC for the process.

The ITGC is of the view that the committee is seriously undermining the peace of the party by machinating a flawed process that has the tendency to create chaos.

The Committee is yet to react to the allegations.
