One of the most progressive and law-abiding communities in Sierra Leone, the Indian community has facilitated the critical surgery of a three-year-old boy in Indian with an estimated cost of over US$20,000.

Alhaji Lamrana Jalloh is facing a life-threatening condition and if not urgently operated he may lose his life, according to medics.

Alhaji and her mother Ramatu Jalloh have departed the shores of Freetown on Sunday, March 26, 2023 for Indian for ‘high risk operation’.

A member of the Indian Community, Harish Agnani said that the child’s condition was diagnosed by a team of experts from Indian and Choithram Memorial Hospital.

He said that the Indian community has procured visa, passport, paid for the operation and accommodation and provided US$1000 to the mother for meet other expenses.

He said that its important that they support the operation of the boy in other to save his life. He emphasised that the boy will be undergoing high-risk surgery.

Agnani said that the support came after the mother of the child approached Mr Balani and explained her child’s condition to him. He said that Mr Balani then approached the Indian community that contributed the fund.

He said that apart from this support, the Indian Community had contributed immensely to the development of the country. He said that the community has supported the construction of a ward at the 34 Military Hospital which cost over US$60,000 at the time, provided relief items worth billions of Leone to Mudslide victims, Ebola survivors, fire victims, and contributed to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, among others. 

Other Members of the Indian community, Rajesh Balani, Rohit, and Manoj Rajwani on behalf of the community, expressed their desire to continue to provide funding to support the successful operation of the child.

The mother of the child, Ramatu Jalloh who was tears, appreciated the Indian community for the support. She said that God will surely bless them for the humanitarian gesture.
