Conex Observes World Day for Safety By George M.O. Williams

The Oil and Gas Holdings Limited, Conex (Erstwhile Totalenergies) has on Friday, April 28, 2023, observed the World Day for Safety with awareness raising and best practice approach for their staff at its Headquarters and Terminal on Sir Samuel Lewis Road and Kissy, respectively.

A handbook containing key safety guides and titled ‘Conex Golden Rules’ was designed and distributed among staff that were present at the ceremony.

The handbook was formulated in a bid to raise awareness and to serve as a reminder of the responsibilities if staff in ensuring the group safety objectives of zero accident and zero fatality.

The handbook comprises of safety guides on high-risk situation, safe driving, lifting operations, energized systems, personal protective equipment and tools, work permit, excavation works, confined spaces and change management.

This year’s World Day for Safety is themed: “A safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work”. The Day which is being set aside by the International Labour Organization   (ILO) encourages involvement on safety issues, and provides global opportunity to join in global solidarity and action to enhance workers safety and reduce occupational accident.

The Managing Director of Conex Sierra Leone, Avrajit Kar said that the Day is meant to discuss issues in daily workplace and dealings, adding that they are conscious about safety and adherence of measures that will safeguard staff.

He added that safety is an incredible importance and a major priority to ensure that everyone is conscious about their safety. He said that individual should be able to assess dangerous situation and do what is necessary.

Kar urged staff to fully internalize the rules.

The Operation Manager at the Terminal, Yaibhav  Paladi said that everyone has a responsibility to ensure that their subordinates, employee and family are safe. He added that safety should be integrated in workplace and executed with work plan.

Paladi mentioned that safety is also centered on having the right attitude, embrace the guides and implement them when necessary.
