Groovy Colours, the premier band of the Ballanta Academy of Music and Performing Arts, will stage a fundraising musical concert on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the academy. The event is aim raising fund to support the academy and its activities.
The band thought it fit that they too should help develop the academy since they were nurtured there.
Ballanta is basically a voluntary organization that has been relying on support from individuals, groups and companies.
According to David Solomon Koroma aka Double King, the director of the band, the fundraising event would be graced by musical performances from the band and some acts outside the academy. “This is the band’s first live musical concert, and it is all about raising funds for the academy and the band. We will be performing our original songs and some other genres of music. You are all invited. Come let us together move the academy to another level,” said Double King.
Ballanta being the first music school in Sierra Leone that was established in 1995 with a vision to be a worldwide inspiration for the development and promotion of West African music and dance, has nurtured many students that have become confident and even professional musicians in the entertainment industry in the areas of voice, guitar, piano, dance, keyboard, drum etc..
The academy which aims at providing first class classical and modern music tuition for the people of Sierra Leone and beyond, has steadily grown in stature over the years.
Ballanta teaches music; gives its students opportunities to perform at concerts, musicals, festivals and competitions; provides a centre for arts education and entertainment of indigenous and international content through practice, training and research to people in Sierra Leone, thereby providing a platform for nurturing talent to be internationally recognized. Recently, the academy has started offering music classes towards the WASSCE and will soon introduce a course in theatre.
