LRMG Supports Rehabilitation of Nixon Hospital

As part of its drive to change life and living conditions for ordinary Sierra Leoneans across the country, Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG) has on April 28,  2023, handed over huge consignment of building material to the management and staff of the Nixon Hospital for the rehabilitation of 3 wards.

The building material which were handed over to the management of the hospital include over 507 cartoons of tiles, five dumpers of sand, eight sets of washing hand basins, 100 PVC corner stripes, 21 units doors, 21 cartoons glass windows, 8 sets WC ordinary, 29 boxes of florescent lights, 54 bundles of PVC ceilings, 30 buckets of paints and 490 Bags of cement with labour fully paid for.

This landmark event was attended by the Chiefdom Speaker who represented the Paramount Chief, Section chief, community stakeholders, the only doctor of the Nixon hospital, lab technicians, managers and staff of the hospital, engineers, chiefdom cultural groups, the media, and representatives from LRMG.

Mr Turay, community and security manager – LRMG, in his declaration of purpose, pointed out that the hospital rehabilitation project is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility in the health sector, noting that the essence of such demonstration is to strengthen Sierra Leone’s health sector in rural communities.

He said that the project is one that is timely for the people of Segbwema and other surrounding communities. He said that the project comes at a time Sierra Leone is building health infrastructure against future outbreak.

 “We are proud as a company to be actively involved in such course. “LRMG is a forward-thinking company that believes in cooperation, sharing and familyhood. We all know Segbwema is not within our concessional areas, but it is in Sierra Leone, and we pride ourselves in giving back to the people of this country because we care,” he said.

“This support is critical in making sure that Segbwema is fully prepared to prevent and respond to disease outbreak in a modernised and conducive environment.”

Mr Vanon Williams, Community Coordinator, LRMG, said that LRMG is rehabilitating the Nixon hospital because the facility is important to the people of Segbwema.

 He said that access to healthcare services is considered by the company critical to good health, noting that  residents of Segbwema should be able to conveniently access health services, thus the importance of this project. This hospital when rehabilitated will be an integral part of the healthcare system of the community.

The management and staff of the Nixon hospital said that they were extremely amazed by LRMG’s kind and thoughtful gesture. One of the administrative heads narrated the many challenges residents of the community are faced with in relation to accessing healthcare infrastructure. He said, “LRMG is indeed a thoughtful company. Your response to the people of Segbwema with this project is a clear manifestation of how dedicated the company is to support the people of Sierra Leone. We are grateful as an institution and as a country to have a company like yours in Sierra Leone. Your presence is truly felt, thank you!”

Representing the Paramount Chief, the Chiefdom Speaker thanked LRMG for remembering their people. He noted that it is rare to see mining companies engage in supporting health infrastructure in the country. He said that he is very proud of LRMG and its management for breaking the glass ceilings always with their many sustainable projects across the country. He said, “LRMG is supporting every sector in the country.  Your love for sustainable development is truly commendable and we are in support of your activities. We as local stakeholders in this community will give you all the support you need to accomplish this project.  You are always welcome and thanks very much.”

Climaxing the event, Mr Turay on behalf of LRMG handed over a cheque of NLE155,264 which is 40% of the payment to the Engineers for the rehabilitation of 3 wards at the hospital.
