Liberian National Jailed Six Months for Theft

Emmanuel Cole, a Liberian national, was on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, sentenced to six months in prison by Magistrate Peter Gogra of for Aluminum frame theft.

The accused was charged with  one  count of larceny contrary to section 2 of The Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Cape Sierra Hotel construction site, Aberdeen in Freetown stole one aluminum frame valued at  NLe 1000,  property of Sharpooji Paalonji Construction Company.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused, he pleaded guilty.

Prosecution witness No1 Sergeant 9071 Joseph Sorie Bangura led in evidence by Police Constable 17220 J.B Sannoh,  said he is attached to  the exhibit office at the  Aberdeen police station.

He said on August 7, 2023, he was on duty when Inspector Alfred Bangura handed over to him one old aluminum, and he registered the said exhibit in the exhibit book.  He said that since then the exhibit has been in the custody of the police.

The said exhibit was produced and tendered in court to form part of the court record.

The accused person was not represented by counsel. He pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.

Due to the plea mitigation by the accused person, Magistrate Gogra sentenced him to six months in prison.
