Magistrate Sahr Kekura has on Monday January 15th 2024 ordered for a 22-year-old young adult Chernor Conteh to be remanded at the Male Correctional facility on Pademba Road in Freetown because, Conteh the accused had allegedly been found with two short gun and cartridges.
The Magistrate took this decision against the accused person Yesterday when he (the accused) made his first appearance at the Magistrate Court at Pademba Road where he was arraigned for unlawful possession of small arms without license, having control of small arms without license and unlawful concealment of arms contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
In the charges against Conteh the police are alleging that on the 29th of December 2023, at Concern Pump, Kissy Town Waterloo he was found to have one short gun and two short cartridges without a license.
The police further alleged on count two that the accused on the same date and place was also found in control of one short gun and two short gun cartridges without license.
The third count stated that the accused was found in possession of the said gun without authorization.
When the charges were read and explained to him, he was not asked respond whether or not he was guilty as charged, and he had no legal representation.
Magistrate Kekura did not admit the accused person to bail and adjourned the matter to the 23rd of January 2024.
