Four people including Alimamy Kamara are in custody over the brutal killing of Iyeba Sanda Barrie, 35, at the Kamaseh Village in the outskirts of Kabala Town, Koinadugu District, according to the police in Kalaba.

The body of Iyeba was discovered by locals in a river at Kamaseh village.

The deep cuts on her forehead and blood oozing from her nose and mouth indicate that she was apparently tortured before she was killed and dumped into the river.

Meanwhile, Alimamy Kamara of Kamaseh village who was last seen with the deceased in the morning hours of Wednesday, January 24, 2024, is helping the police in their investigation.

Meanwhile, a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from the Kabala Division led by the Crime Officer, Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police (D/ASP) Mohamed Hindolo Feika with medical practitioners from the Kabala Government Hospital had visited the scene where the deceased was discovered.

An autopsy has been conducted on the remains of Iyeba at the Kabala Government Hospital. She was laid to rest on Sunday in Falaba District.

The elder brother of the deceased, Alpha B. Barrie, said perpetrators of such a heinous crime must pay for their cowardly act.

“We will not rest until we see that those behind her death are put behind bars,” he said.

Barrie said that no Sierra Leonean deserves to be brutally tortured and killed as experienced by his sister.

“My sister’s death highlights the existing brutality, especially against women and girls in our country,” he said.

He said that the family is looking forward to the police investigation, and subsequent prosecution of those responsible for the barbaric act.

“As the family goes through this excruciating pain and horror, I am demanding justice for my little sister whose life was unlawfully and brutally taken away.”

Barrie said, “I do applaud the Local Unit Commander (LUC), and Crime officer with their team in Kabala for their efforts so far. I am also calling on the Inspector General of Police and by extension the government of Sierra Leone to ensure that the family gets justice.”
