Tourism Minister Encourages locals to focus on rebranding

The Minister of Tourism Madam Nabeela Tunis has on Monday February 12, 2024 during a program marking the finish line of the 2024 Budapest-Bamako rally encourage locals to focus on rebranding the Tourism Sector for the good image of Sierra Leone.
The Budapest-Bamako-Freetown rally is one of the biggest adventure events in the world which annually draws the attention of passionate tourists around the world to visit places in Africa by using the route from Hungary to Freetown through roads. This year is the third edition since they decided to end the rally in Freetown.
In this year’s edition, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Madam Nabeela Tunis started by thanking participants and organizers for choosing Sierra Leone as their favorite destination which indicated that the country’s hospitality to foreigners remains unchanged.
Minister Nabeela Tunis noted that Sierra Leone’s tourism potential is great, as it has the capacity to create jobs for people with diverse initiatives in the tourism sector, which will also pave the way to attract foreign investment in tourism and further contribute towards the economic development of Sierra Leone.
She added that they in the ministry and agencies had rolled out a one-year nationwide awareness campaign with the theme “Tourism for all” which aims at rebuilding and boosting Sierra Leone’s local tourism sector to make it more attractive not only to locals, but to foreigners as well.
She further explained the importance of the sector in rebranding the country’s image and urged all Sierra Leoneans to put aside their differences to support the government to achieve its goal.
“Tourism can only thrive well when there is peace and tranquility in the country,” she stated.
In conclusion, Minister Tunis appraised the three Sierra Leoneans from Puzzle Piece that represented the country in this year’s Budapest-Bamako-Freetown rally for flying the green white and blue flag which demonstrated a strong commitment of solidarity in nation building. Among them is Drizilik, a popular Sierra Leonean singer/rapper and songwriter.
