Lion Pride wins Tacugama Football Tournament

Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary (TCS) is an eco-tourism hub in Freetown located on the outskirts of Freetown in the Western Area Peninsular National Park.

It focuses on the protection and promotion of the National Animal in Sierra Leone, the chimpanzees since 1995 and also engaged in community development and outreach in different places.

On Wednesday 3rd June, 2024, the TCS hosted a football and athletics tournament at the SS Camp, Hill Station dubbed ‘Play for Nature’ to encourage youths to have interest in sports as well as educate them about conservation and the National Animal, the chimpanzee.

Among the different male and female teams that participated in the football tournament were Limkokwing vs Lion Pride, Tacugama vs FBC Roots and Shoots, Regent Female and SS Camp Female while the athletes event included 100 meters, 4×400 meters, Tug of Peace, Egg and Spoon, Sack Race and Musical Chairs.

Sadique Bayoh, TCS Communications Officer underscored the importance of the event aimed at connecting youths to nature as well as educating them about the benefits of conservation and the National Animal.

At the end of the football tournament, Lion Pride defeated FBC 1: 0.

* Princess Lefèvre – 100 meters (Limkokwing Roots & Shoots)

* Sita Barrie – 100 meters (Limkokwing Roots & Shoots)

* Esther – Musical Chairs –Tacugama
