Entertainers in Sierra Leone are mourning the death of Ngor Gbetuwa, one of the famous indigenous musicians in Sierra Leone who died recently in Bo after several months of illness. Ngor Gbetuwa was not only an incredible indigenous singer, but he was also one of the many traditional singers who was fighting very hard to preserve the rich and beautiful culture and heritage of Sierra Leone.

The late man in most of his songs used his lyrics to preach about challenges the masses of Sierra Leone face and how those challenges could be addressed.

During his life time, he recorded many songs, including ‘Amu Yama Muyei’ which were loved by many Sierra Leoneans.

Lamina Sankoh, an indigenous musician in Lumley in the west of Freetown, said that the late man’s music did not only inspire him but it also educated him about how to enjoy great traditional music. “Most often, I will listen to his songs before I could start writing my song. I usually borrow lyrics from his songs and add them to mine. He has gone, but he has left a great legacy. Gbetuwa will be profoundly missed for his contributions to the music industry of Sierra Leone. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to impact the music industry of Sierra Leone,” said Sankoh.
