Goderich, Western Rural District – Hon. Ibrahim Kabba popularly known as ‘Small Borbor,’ the Member of Parliament for the Western Area Rural District, on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, successfully wrapped up a four-week free summer school program. The initiative was aimed at assisting 73 newly promoted pupils from the Goderich Community in preparing for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The closing ceremony at the Goderich Community Centre saw an impressive turnout of students, teachers, parents, and key stakeholders from the Western Rural District. The top ten pupils who excelled in the Summer School Examinations were honored for their outstanding performances during the event. These pupils received exercise books and financial tokens as part of their rewards.

In his address, Hon. Kabba highlighted the importance of the summer school initiative, noting that it aligns with the government’s radical inclusion strategy, which seeks to ensure that every child has access to quality education. “There are many parents who wish to send their children to summer school but lack the financial means to do so,” Kabba stated. He further explained that the program was designed not only to enhance the student’s academic skills but also to keep them productively engaged during the holiday period, reducing the likelihood of their involvement in harmful activities.

Margaret Thorpe, one of the dedicated teachers who participated in the program, encouraged the students to apply the knowledge they gained when they would have returned to their regular school sessions. She urged them to remain focused and take their studies seriously to achieve success in their BECE.

The Chairman of the occasion, Abu Kumba, expressed his admiration for Hon. Kabba’s commitment to improving educational opportunities for young people in the community. He described the initiative as a commendable effort that has the potential to make a lasting impact on the lives of the pupils.
