On Wednesday, 23 October 2024, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr joined the Acting Principal, teachers, pupils, and alumni as the Keynote Speaker at the Sierra Leone Grammar School’s Career Day. In her address, she urged students to embrace hard work, perseverance, and integrity as the cornerstone of their career paths. She explained to the pupils that careers should be personally fulfilling and at the same time make a positive impact on society.
In the afternoon, she met with representatives from the Centre of Dialogue on Human Settlement and Poverty Alleviation (CODOHSAPA), part of the Slum/Shack Dwellers International (SDI) network, a global movement of the urban poor. She provided an update on FCC’s efforts to address the challenges faced by slum dwellers, including initiatives for upgrading informal settlements.
