Freetown, Sierra Leone — In a landmark decision by Sierra Leone’s High Court, Bai Mamoud Bangura, National Organizing Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC), has been acquitted of all charges related to the November 26, 2023, failed coup allegations. The court, presided over by Honourable Justice Komba Kamanda, cleared Bangura after an intense eleven-month investigation and legal battle, marking a critical turning point in Bangura’s political career and reaffirming his commitment to the APC and the nation.
In his statement following the acquittal, Bangura expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support he received and reflected on the personal and professional trials he faced during the prolonged scrutiny. “This experience has tested my resolve,” he noted, “but it has also illuminated the strength of the APC.” He encouraged members of the APC to embrace principles of unity, peace, and reconciliation as they look to the future, emphasizing that these values are essential to the party’s resilience and its mission to serve Sierra Leone.
Bangura also extended special thanks to APC leaders, including National Chairman Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, Deputy National Chairman Ambassador Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh, and his legal team led by Africanus Sorie Sesay Esq., for their steadfast support and belief in his innocence. “Your patience and unwavering commitment to justice have vindicated me,” he added, acknowledging the party’s unity as a pillar of strength during the ordeal.
Looking ahead, Bangura urged all APC members to remain united in their dedication to the party’s values and to work collectively towards a future of progress and prosperity for Sierra Leone. His statement closed on an optimistic note, highlighting the party’s resolve to build a culture of hope and resilience that will lead to future successes.
