The Defence Council of the Ministry of Defence has approved the discharge of 70 military officers of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) on grounds of retirement, prolonged absence without leave, and misconduct, the Defence Ministry said in a statement Friday.
The statement outlined that 53 officers, ranging from Major General to Lieutenant were retired administratively. Meanwhile, 11 officers, from Major to Lieutenant, were discharged for prolonged absence without leave; and six officers, from Lieutenant Colonel to Lieutenant, were compulsorily dismissed for misconduct.
As part of the retirement process, the Defence Council approved a comprehensive package for the 53 retired officers, which includes a lump sum payment equivalent to a one-year salary, gratuity, and other entitlement benefits.
The Ministry clarified that the decisions were taken in compliance with Section 169 (1) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone Act No. 6 of 1991 and paragraphs 26 and 27 (a & b) of the Army Orders No. 1 of 1965.
The announcement highlights the Ministry’s dedication to enforcing discipline and ensuring the professionalism of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces.
