Amb. Sawanneh receives Global Ambassador UN Gender Priority Strategy award 

Sierra Leone’s Deputy Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea, Ambassador Fatmata Sawanneh, was among 20 recipients from various countries in Africa and USA who were bestowed with the 2024 Global Ambassador UN Gender Priority Strategy award.

The award ceremony was held recently in Yaraduwa Center in Abuja, Nigeria. It attracted distinguished personalities from many countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Benin,  Niger,  The Gambia and the United States.

Distinguished state authorities across Nigeria including the spouses of the State Governors, some of the first ladies of Nigeria Madam Mrs Musa Yaraduwa, and Madam Mrs Good Luck Jonathan graced the occasion.

The awards, according to the organizer,  honours individuals who have tirelessly championed transitional Justice, peace and human rights.

The Sierra Leonean diplomat was recognized for her advocacy for women and unwavering dedication in fostering a stronger Sierra Leone in her community.

Receiving the award, Amb. Fatmata Sawanneh thanked the Global Ambassador UN Gender Priority Strategy, and Sierra Leoneans for acknowledging her service to humanity.

She appreciated the honor accorded her, describing the occasion as a motivation to build a stronger Sierra Leone.

Next year all the awardees will converged at the UN General Assembly to discuss women and gender issues.

In another development, Amb. Fatmata Sawanneh was recognized by the Editor -in-Chief, management, and staff of Focus African Magazine, and she was given the honour to officially launch their maiden edition of the Magazine. The event was witnessed by journalists and stakeholders in Nigeria. While Amb. Sawanneh spoke about the media, which she said plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of any nation.
