In a remarkable display of generosity and community spirit, the District Grand Lodge of Sierra Leone and The Gambia, under the Scottish Constitution, hosted its seventh annual Christmas party for children on December 21, 2024.

Held at the Masonic Temple on Lightfoot Boston Street in Freetown, the event brought joy, fun, and reflections on the true essence of Christmas to the community.

This cherished tradition welcomed 200 children, who enjoyed a festive day filled with free food, drinks, gifts, and lively activities. Among the highlights was an exciting musical chairs competition, where the winner received NLe 1,000, while runners-up were awarded thoughtful prizes.

Beyond the festive fun, the event served a deeper purpose: teaching children the true meaning of Christmas—sharing, love, and worship. It reflects one of the Lodge’s core principles of charity. The Grand Lodge creates memorable moments during the holidays and supports philanthropic initiatives throughout the year.

The Lodge has made significant contributions over the years, including donating 50 million Leones to prostate cancer research and 20 million Leones to the Society for the Aged. Its charitable reach extends to The Gambia, where it supports organizations like the Society for the Blind. These contributions are regularly reported to the Grand Lodge of Scotland, underscoring the group’s commitment to meaningful change.

Ojo Albert Collier, the District Grand Secretary, expressed pride in the annual initiative. “This is the seventh year we’ve hosted this party, and it’s always heartwarming to see the joy it brings to the children,” he said. “We aim to fill the void for those less fortunate, ensuring they experience the joy of Christmas.”

Collier also highlighted the collaborative effort of the Lodge’s members, supported by 20 lodges across Sierra Leone and one in The Gambia. Their collective contributions make events like the Christmas party possible, emphasizing the unity within the Masonic circle.

The District Grand Lodge’s commitment to charity, community, and unity is evident in its ongoing efforts to uplift and inspire.
