Dura Plast Sierra Leone Ltd. and Ferro Fabric PVT Limited are set to begin production soon, a significant development for Sierra Lone’s manufacturing sector. The announcement comes after substantial progress in the construction of their production facilities.
Mohamed H. Bility, the Global Government Relations and Acting General Manager of Dura Plast and Ferro Fabric Sierra Leone Limited, informed journalists at the company site in Songo, Freetown, that 95% of the construction work has been completed. Additionally, 18 heavy-duty trailers have arrived to deliver machinery and equipment essential for the production process.
Bility noted that shortly after commencing the production of plastic products in April, Ferro Fabric will also start producing iron rods. He emphasized the companies’ commitment to adding value to the Sierra Leonean market and supporting the local economy by creating between 900 and 1,100 direct and indirect jobs. “We will ensure that all our agents are from the community where we operate,” Bility said, highlighting their dedication to local engagement.
Dura Plast Sierra Leone Ltd. and Ferro Fabric PVT Limited operate in the plastic ware and steel manufacturing industries, respectively. The companies were established in Sierra Leone following an agreement approved by Parliament in January 2021. They aim to support the accelerating growth of West Africa, striving to make the region self-reliant in iron rebars and plastic products, thereby reducing its dependence on imported steel products.
The companies are committed to maintaining the highest standards of manufacturing and contributing to the economic development of Sierra Leone and the broader West African region. Bility assured that the company has a presence in the sub-region and is dedicated to upholding the highest standards in their operations.
As the companies prepare to commence production, the anticipated economic and social impact is expected to be significant, marking a positive step forward for Sierra Leone’s industrial sector.
