Freetown, Sierra Leone – Magistrate Sahr Kekura on Monday, January 27, 2025, ordered the remand of Abubakarr Turay, his wife Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter Kadiatu Turay in prison, following allegations of their involvement in the theft of US$7,000 from the residence of prominent footballer Kai Kamara. The family had been staying at Kamara’s house as caretakers.
The accused appeared in court on two counts: conspiracy to commit a crime, contrary to law, and larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. According to the charge sheet, the accused conspired to commit larceny on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Fadika Drive, Hill Station in Freetown. It is alleged that on the same day and location, they stole $7,000, equivalent to one hundred and seventy thousand one hundred Leones, from Kai Kamara.
When the charges were read, Abubakarr Turay pleaded not guilty, while his wife Fatmata Bangura and daughter Kadiatu Turay admitted guilt.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Aminatu Daboh, the prosecutor, requested an adjournment due to the absence of key witnesses. The accused, who were unrepresented in court, had no bail application submitted on their behalf.
The court ordered their remand in custody, with the hearing adjourned to Tuesday, January 29, 2025, for further proceedings.
