Freetown, Sierra Leone – Emma Morlia Sesay was remanded in prison on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2, for allegedly stealing a week-old baby against the will of the parents.
The accused, making her first court appearance, faced a charge of child stealing, contrary to Section 56 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861. According to the indictment, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Fort Street in Freetown, Sesay allegedly stole a one-week-and-five-day-old baby boy named Mustapha Sesay against the will of his parents.
Sesay pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read and explained to her. Prosecutor Sergeant 8811 Florence M. Wilson requested a short adjournment, citing the need for a proper conference with the witness to testify before the court.
Defense counsel Musa represented the accused and applied for bail on her behalf. However, Magistrate Bangura refused bail and ordered Sesay to be remanded at the female correctional facility. The matter was adjourned to January 30, 2025, for further hearing.
