On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, four individuals—Andrew Momoh Jah, Daniel Kamara, Zainab Kamara, and Thomas Leigh—appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1. They were denied bail and remanded on charges related to manufacturing Kush and other illegal drugs. This high-profile case has garnered significant attention from locals in Freetown.

The accused, comprising a bike rider, a laborer, a businesswoman, and an unemployed individual, face 13 counts of drug-related offenses. These include manufacturing and distributing the illegal substance known as Kush, as well as transporting and collecting substances for drug production.

The charges stem from an incident on 20th November 2024 at No. 66 Kanu Drive, Temne Town, Allen Town, where the accused were allegedly found producing Kush without lawful authority.

During cross-examination, police investigator Amara Safiya, who has eight years of experience, confirmed that the accused were informed of their legal rights before voluntarily giving statements. However, under questioning by defense lawyers, Safiya admitted he could not recall specific answers provided by the accused.

One defense lawyer argued that his client, Zainab Kamara, was merely in her husband’s apartment at the time of the alleged crime. Another lawyer challenged the seizure of 867,000 Leones, asserting that the money originated from legitimate business activities and family support. Despite these claims, the officer maintained the findings of the investigation.

The case has been adjourned to March 18, 2025 for further hearings
