Footballer Remanded for Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Drugs

Freetown, Sierra Leone—Footballer Mohamed Kamara has been remanded in custody following his arraignment before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Kamara faces five charges related to the unlawful possession and handling of prohibited drugs, specifically Kush.

The charges against him include collecting, transporting, exposing, dealing in, and possessing prohibited drugs without lawful authority. According to police reports, Kamara was apprehended at the Lumley Police checkpoint on March 19, 2025, where he was allegedly found transporting and dealing in Kush.

Due to the severity of the charges, no plea was taken during the court session. Prosecutor Detective Police Constable Thoronka K.K. requested an adjournment to confer with witnesses and prepare for the case.

Magistrate Bangura ordered Kamara to be remanded at the male correctional facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to April 30, 2025, for further hearing.

This development comes amidst ongoing efforts by authorities to address the issue of drug-related crimes in Sierra Leone. Kamara’s case is expected to draw significant public attention as it unfolds in the coming weeks.
