The Sierra Leone Network on the Right to Food (SiLNoRF), in a bid to help fight the Global Pandemic has distributed a huge consignment of Corona Virus (COVID-19) preventive materials to three Chiefdoms in the Tonkolili district.
The timely intervention of SiLNoRF in distributing the preventive materials with support from BMZ through Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH), Land for Life (LfL) Project was considered as a big boost towards curbing the pandemic by many people in Sierra Leone.
The three beneficiary communities, Yoni Mamella, Yoni Mabanta and Gbonkelenkeh Chiefdoms, all in the Tonkolili District, lauded the efforts of the management and staff of SiLNoRF for the wonderful gesture, and commended them for their timely intervention in the fight to end the scourge of COVID-19 in the Country.
The distribution exercise took place on the 20th and 21st May, 2020, under the watchful eyes of the Deputy National Coordinator of SiLNoRF, Abass J. Kamara and team.
Among the consignment distributed were 3 moving mini-speakers with COVID-19 messages in Themne, Krio and English Languages, full sets of 50 Veronica buckets, 10 Cartons of soap, each containing 24 pieces, 1,000 Face Masks and ITC materials.
The presentation of eight sets of Veronica buckets and 150 Face Masks to the Mile 91 Town, COVID-19 Task Force on behalf of the community formed the climaxed of the distribution exercise.
Prior to the distribution of the COVID-19 materials in all the three Chiefdoms , Mr. Kamara and team on behalf of SiLNoRF’s National Secretariat engaged local authorities in the various locations and sensitized them on the dangers of COVID-19, and on how the pandemic has affected millions of people around the world, pointing out that Sierra Leone is not an exception.
He admonished them to be mindful of their immediate surroundings and for them to adhere to all the Corona preventive measures put in place by the government of Sierra Leone.
“The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is one that needs all hands to be on the deck. It requires a concerted effort. It is a fight we must win,” Abass J. Kamara said.
SiLNoRF is a leading local non-governmental organisation that was very much instrumental in the fight against the Ebola epidemic in 2014-2015 in Sierra Leone.
Similarly, SiLNoRF has been in the forefront of the fight against the global pandemic in Sierra Leone, since the country recorded its index case on March 31st this year.
