Darlington Collier, a security guard who allegedly stole 1000 litres of Diesel from George Taylor Lewis to whom he was assigned to provide guard duties was on Thursday June 24, 2020, arraigned before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Court No.1 on Pademba Road. According to the information from the police charge sheet, the value of item the Collier is said to have stolen exceeds Le 11 million.
The accused is being preliminarily investigated on an offence of stealing over 1000 litres of diesel worth over Le 11 million from one George Taylor Lewis, the complainant in the matter.
The complainant said that he works day shift, and that the accused was responsible for overseeing his house at Juba. He told the court that he does not stay at the house where the theft had occurred.
He further said that based upon that information he proceeded to the house and told the accused what he had been informed about, and accompanied him to the store where the diesel had been kept. He said the gallons were 70 in total.
He said that all but one of the containers which they opened was filled with water.
He said after he had found out that much of the diesel was stolen, he informed the security agent that the accused worked for about the incident.
He mentioned that he then proceeded with the accused to the Lumley Police Station and made statement there. He said that the police visited the resident and took photos of the empty containers.
However, Magistrate Bonnie admitted the accused to bail in the sum of Le20 million, one surety in like sum who should be a responsible citizen and resident Freetown.
She said the surety must provide a valid identification and the bail must be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
