The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has in a press release issued on Tuesday June 30, 2020, informed the general public that the High Court has conviction Ben Fornah , a staff of United Business Systems (UBS), on a charge of corruption.
Fornah is a freelance technician at United Business Systems (UBS), which is an outreach company that works with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) to distribute and install electricity meters.
According to ACC, the High Court in Freetown presided by the Honorable Justice Komba Kamanda convicted Ben Fornah on one count of corruption.
The ACC explained that “Between 1st July and 31st August 2016, Ben Fornah willfully failed to comply with applicable procedures in the allocation of public property.”
According to them, Mr. Fornah improperly allocated to a member of the public, an electric “SAGEM Meter,” with Serial Numbers 98000391940, being public property in the custody of the United Business Systems, but held on behalf of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), without following due procedures contrary to Section 48 (2) (b) of the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 12 of 2008”.
According to ACC, Justice Kamanda convicted Fornah and ruled that he pays a fine of Le 30,000,000 instantly or serves three year in prison.
During the matter in court, the ACC was represented by Lawyer M. M. SOW, while Lawyer I. KANU represented the convict. Mr. Michael Sambola was the lead prosecution witness in this matter.
