Sierra Leone: Don Bosco Discharges over 20 Children

Don Bosco Fambul, a Non-Governmental Organization that helps vulnerable children and teenagers from the streets of Freetown, has on Thursday June 25, 2020, discharged over 20 children after they completed a six-month counseling at the Organization.

Father George Mario Chrisafulli, Director of Don Bosco, said that the organization discharged the children because they have completed a package of designated lessons.

Chrisafulli said that the Organization protects children and started operating in Sierra Leone in 1998. He added that since 2010, the Organization has rehabilitated and transformed the lives of over 2,500,000 people in Sierra Leone.

He said the agency takes under its wings children who are prone to violence, sexual abuse and lack of care.

He explained: “We walk on the streets at night to spot cases of vulnerability; after discovering them, we provide them a friendly environment and …shelter, food, medical care, psychosocial support, social and moral education, and also provide them non-formal education. And after their completion of the selected time at the organization, we will reunify them with their families and send them back to schools to gain formal education.”

He furthered that the organization guides children to grow into reliable, affable, law abiding, helpful and God-fearing.

Chrisafulli further expressed delight to see Music Heals another NGO organization who has been contributing greatly in easing and healing the wounds of the children through music.

He said that music has helped to rehabilitate the children by building up their self-confidence.

He said, “I am really happy for Simeon Bangura the director of the Music Heals and the entire members who had been supportive to Don Bosco by healing the souls of the children through music. Since they started, they have never requested anything from us but they are always dedicated and willing to work for the interest of the children.”

He said that through the music training, some have built self-confidence that they lacked and some have realized their talents as musicians.

He said that they are as an organization have tried so hard to maintain all the precautionary measures said by the government and the medical practitioners in the fight of the Coronavirus.
