Sierra Leone: Prosecution Closes case of alleged murder

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ibrahim S. Mansaray has on Wednesday July 1, 2020, closed the case of the prosecution in a murder matter involving Ibrahim Kamara, an accused who is being preliminarily investigated by Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Court No.1 on Pademba Road, Freetown.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused on Saturday August 31, 2019, along Regent Road, Lumley allegedly murdered Sheku Samura.

However, before the prosecution closed its case, the witness, a  12-year-old boy told the court that on Saturday August 31, 2019, he was at their shop along Regent Road, Lumley when the accused and the deceased had confrontation. He said Kamara blamed the deceased of hitting his auto rickshaw (Keke). He disclosed that the deceased apologized to the accused after which he (the deceased) went to a shop.

The witness said that  when the deceased, Samura returned from the shop the confrontations started all over again. He said the deceased told the accused to move his “Keke” so that he could go away, the accused refused and slapped the deceased.

He further that, the accused hit the deceased on a slab, on his “Keke”, and on his aunt’s market.

He said that the accused also took a tray and hit the accused. He said he saw blood oozing from the head of the deceased.

He also mentioned that the accused placed the head of the deceased under his armpit and gave him a tight squeeze. He said some passers-by came to separate the accused from the deceased but was unable until the intervention of the police.

He also lamented that when the police had successfully removed the accused on top of the deceased; he (accused) started trembling and became numb.

He said when the accused became normal he enquired what had transpired that led him to that helpless stage. He said the accused was informed that he engaged in a fight with the deceased.

However, the witness stated that after the incident he made statement at the Lumley Police Station.

The matter was adjourned to July 8, 2020.
