Bintu Mansaray, the wife of Dr. Mahmoud Mansaray, now deceased, was on Thursday July 2, 2020 remanded at the Female Correctional Centre by Magistrate Marke Ngegba of Court No. 2 on Pademba Road for the allegedly killing her husband.
She is currently been preliminarily investigated for the charge of murder contrary to law.
Police alleged that the accused Bintu Mansaray on March 30, 2020, at Murray Town Barracks Freetown murdered her husband Mahmoud Mansaray.
According to the first prosecution witness, Sheku Kamara, who said he had lived with the accused person for the past two years and recognized her, he was asleep in his room on the day of the incident but woke up when he heard a loud noise. He said that the first voice he had heard was that of the deceased.
Sheku stated that upon hearing the loud noise, he was going to call one “Gaza” when he distinctly heard the voice of the deceased screaming that the accused had stabbed him.
He disclosed that he had seen the accused laying on the bed and the deceased was laying with his stomach face down on top of her.
He furthered that when he took a close look at the deceased, he saw blood oozing from his chest of the deceased, and then enquired from the accused about what she had done, but she was mute.
He added that he lifted the deceased off the accused, and put him on a chair while he called out for help.
The second prosecution witness, Zainab Kargbo also explained to the court that she was at her selling point in front of the accused person’s house, when the deceased got back from work and asked her to prepare food for him, because he is a usual customer of hers and knows what he always wants to eat at night.
She said the deceased left her at her point and told her he was going to change his clothes and later collect the food.
She revealed that after few minutes she heard a loud sound like when something fell on the floor. She stated that she had thought that it was the stick under which she sells that had fallen, and became frightened.
She told the court that she later saw the accused coming towards her with her baby and when she took a close look she saw blood stains all over her body.
Zainab disclosed that at first she was of the impression that it was the accused person, Bintu Mansaray, who had sustained injuries. She said that the accused then said to her that she was leaving for her mother’s house, but she [the witness] advised her not to go and tried to interrogate her further.
The witness said that it was then the accused asked her to take a wrapper and hurry into her house to carry someone to the hospital.
Zainab said that when she enquired to know the identity of the person the accused had asked her to convey to the hospital, the accused became mute, but rather urging her to hurry.
She stated that it was at that point that she saw Sheku Kamara, the first Prosecution Witness, and his younger brother coming out of the house with the deceased. She said she saw blood all over the body of the deceased, from his chest downwards.
She added that they then laid the deceased in front of her selling point while the accused was still with her.
She said PW1 and his younger brother secured a bike and took the deceased to the 34 Military Hospital, and she asked one of her customers to apprehend the accused.
She said that she called one Captain Sheriff, a military police, and told him what had happened. She said she went with the military police to the house of the accused and they took her to the police station.
She revealed that she was standing outside when she was informed by PW1 that Dr. Mansaray had been pronounced dead.
She said she made statements to the military police.
Sergeant F.H. Newstead prosecuted the matter and Lawyer Musa Mewa represented the accused person.
The matter was adjourned to Tuesday July 7,2020.
