Sierra Leone: MBSSE receives Le1bn from Chelsea’s Rudiger

In Support of the Free Quality School Education Programme in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MB SSE) on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, has on Tuesday July 7, 2020 confirmed receipt of Le1,000,000,000 (one billion Leones) from Mr. Antonio Rudiger, a Chelsea footballer and German international of Sierra Leonean descent.

The Ministry explained in a statement that in January 2020, Mr. Rudiger pledged to give the sum to the people of Sierra Leone during a bilateral engagement with President Julius Maada Bio at the sidelines of the UK-Africa Investment Summit in London. During that discussion, the Chelsea F.C. football star assured the President: “Sierra Leone is my home. I’m not the talking type of a person, I am about action. We are here to support your vision and agenda, especially on education.”

The Ministry said that the sum which is in honor of that commitment would be used to support the Free Quality School Education programme of the Government. “MBSSE will work with local stakeholders to use this gift for the development of physical structures linked to science and technical education and learning in Sierra Leone, ” the Ministry emphasized in their statement.
