Four men condemned for abusing minors
Freetown 17/08/2020:The newly appointed Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice Alhaji Momo-Jah Stevenshas on Monday at the newly established sexual offences Court in Freetown, sentenced one Alpha Fofanah to 10 years in prison for sexually penetrating a 14-year-old girl.
According to the particulars of the offence, Fofanah on an unknown date between 7th May and 10thMay 2020, in Freetownengaged in an act of sexual penetration with the 14-year-old pupil.
According to the medical report, the hymen of the victim was completely ruptured as a result of the sexual penetration and an offensive yellowish discharge was found from the victim’s vagina.
During the trial, the convict made confessional statement and the formal witness, a female police officer, produced and tendered in evidence the said confessional statement.
The convict affirmed that the victim was her lover. The law forbids any relationship with person below 18years.
In his judgement, Justice Momo-Jah Stevens said, In accordance with section 6 (ii) of the Sexual Offences Amendment Act No. 8 of 2019, and the accused being21 years, he is sentenced to 10 years in prison. The Judge said that the time already spent on remand be included in the counting.
In similar development, Justice Komba Kamanda sentenced Saidu Bangura to 10 years in prisonfor sexually penetrating an8-year-old girl. The Medical Report of the victim states that the convict inserted his penis into the victim’s vagina and eventually ejaculated. The child thereafter started walking with legs apart.
In another deployment, Abdulai Kamara was sentenced to eight years in prisonfor sexually penetrating a 11-year-old child in May, 2018 in the east end of Freetown. The medical certificate revealed that the hymen of the victim was completely ruptured and therewas scanty yellowish discharge from the vagina.
Musa Sheka Jabatie, 21, was also sentenced to 14 years in prison by Justice Komba Kamanda for sexually penetrating a child in Freetown. The seven-year-old victim was in ansevere pain after being brutally penetrated by the convict.
