Sierra Leone: SLFA empowers national coaches

It is of great importance for Sierra Leone National Coaches to gained refresher training ahead of national assignments, that is why a two-day capacity building training for 40 recently appointed National Teams Coaches and Technical Staff was concluded on Wednesday at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel in Freetown.

According to the Sierra Leone Football Association, the event is aimed at providing support and technical guidance to the coaches in line with the FIFA Principles of Agreed Objectives, as the newly appointed coaches prepare to take up their roles and responsibilities in actualizing the mission and vision of SLFA.

SLFA Vice President 1, SLFA,  Brima Mazola Kamara urged the coaches and technical staff to take the induction seminar seriously, adding that “it will help every single one of them greatly during the course of performing their respective roles and responsibilities.”

He further stated that the Football Association has done their own part by entrusting these enviable coaching positions in their hands. “Now it’s your turn to deliver. We believe in you and you have our support,” he added.

Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh expressed great delight in what he described as “a step in the right direction” taken by the SLFA to do an early appointment of coaches in all categories of the National Teams, and further organize a seminar to give them the necessary orientation. “This is novelty,” he said. The Minister assured the new coaches of government’s unflinching support to see that they succeed in their new jobs.

The Head Coach of the senior male national team,  John Keister expressed gratitude to the Sierra Leone Football Association for conducting such a training, adding that the training   would help them to progress in achieving their desire goals of making the various national teams succeed.

He encouraged every Sierra Leonean to have some amount of patience on them as they will do their best,  while calling on the 51 home based players that he has invited for training to work harder when the ban would have lifted by government. He called on them to be steadfast in their personal work out while they continue to be safe in observing the COVID-19 measures prescribe by government and the Ministry of Health.

Leone Stars will begin their AFCON campaign immediately after some modalities would have been put in place by FIFA/CAF in ensuring the 2021 AFCON qualifiers go ahead.  Sierra Leone will face Nigeria in the two legs in November.
