Sierra Leone: Case of farmer accused of abusing minors committed to High Court

The case of Musa Turay, 40, a farmer of Kpandebu Dama Village in the Kenema District has been committed to High Court by the Presiding Magistrate, Edwin George of the Magistrate Court No. 1 in Kenema for abusing two minors.

He had been charged for sexually penetrating two minors: one 12 year-old in July, 2020, and the other 13, in October 2019, at Kpandebu contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012.

No plea was taken and he was committed to High Court for further trial while in custody at the Correctional service in Kenema.

In another matter, Saidu Bah, a businessman of Samai Town in Kenema was arraigned before Magistrate Joseph Tobby of magistrate Court No 2 in Kenema was committed to High Court to stand trial for rape contrary to Section 6 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012.

The Accused is said to have had sex with a female which was not consenting on Saturday July 11, 2020 in Kenema. He was committed to High Court for committing an offence of rape.

In his ruling, Magistrate Tobby told the court that having considered the evidence tendered by the prosecution in relation to the offence charged, “I am sufficiently satisfied that the accused has a case to answer at the High Court in the next criminal session”.

The magistrate accordingly committed to the High Court while the Accused was on the previous bail condition.

The matters were prosecuted by Mansaray Moses Abass and Inspector A.M. Teh attached to the legal and Justice Support Department at the Kenema Police Division respectively.
