Sierra Leone: Petroleum regulators warn against Illegal dealings

The Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA) has warned people dealing in petroleum products, not to aid or abet any illegal activity. It  promise that stiff punishment will be imposed on defaulters by the Agency along with the security forces.

The warning came after a recent raid which the Agency, conducted alongside the Sierra Leone Police, (SLP) in which an unlawful petroleum activity was uncovered in the outskirt of Freetown.

 The press release reads, “A successful raid on this illegal refining of waste engine oil by some unscrupulous people was carried out and the culprits are now with the Sierra Leone Police.”

 “The Agency which owes it responsibility to the people of Sierra Leone hereby urges anyone involved in such unlawful business to desist forthwith,” the Agency warns.

 “All Oil Operators including dealers are warned not to aid or abet any such illegal activity as the crackdown will continue robustly to deal with defaulters,” the Agency affirms.

The Agency also says that while government continues to make the sector attractive, the regulatory landscape has also evolved with a range of enforcement functions and that it anticipates mutual cooperation by partners across the sector.
