Officials of the National Sports Authority on Thursday, September 24th, 2020 commenced a regional familiarization tour.
According to the Head of Media at the national Sports Authority, Eric Fomba, during the tour the NSA will introduce its key staff to stakeholders in the regions, and together identify suitable places for NSA offices in all the regions.
He further that the tour which started in Bo, and was fruitful as the Chairman of the Bo District Council, Joseph M. Bindi, was highly impressed after NSA presentation.
“I am overwhelmed after reading the NSA Act of 2017, with specific reference to the composition of the NSA Board. I wish to use this opportunity to appreciate President Bio and his Government for the continued love and support for sports in the county amidst a very difficult and challenging moment. Indeed, the President has demonstrated his unflinching commitment to sports, and looking at the NSA Act, I am sure sports will now improve and develop in the county in the coming years”, Chairman Bindi added.
He added that the Council is interested in sports, and added that the Council’s interest in Sports is manifest in its buying of sports equipment out of what government allocates to them because sports is devolved to the councils.
“We will, in the shortest possible time identify a suitable place for the NSA office, but I want the NSA to start thinking about acquiring land for the construction of their Office because sport is a big industry,” Bindi concluded.
Chairman, Southern Region Football Association, Sadick Deen- Nyarkoh expressed delight over the move made by NSA. “We can’t develop sports in this country without starting from the grassroots. Where we have raw talents; having NSA offices in the regions will help a lot in talent identification.” Sadick used the opportunity to explain to the NSA team how the Bo District F.A. has started using the COVID-19 relief fund received from the Sierra Leone Football Association.
Mr. Fomba further stated that the visit is expected to continue to other districts including Bonthe, Kenema, Falaba and Karene.
