The Chairman of Women’s Football at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Mr. Harold Nat-Johnson has visited a training session of the female National U-20 team at S. S. Camp football pitch in Freetown to re-assure the girls of SLFA’s support.
The team is gearing up ahead of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Female U-20 Tournament to be hosted in Cape Verde in November.
The assurance left the young players highly motivated and inspired to continue working relentlessly in actualizing their dreams as footballers.
Mr. Harold Nat-Johnson encouraged the girls to “continue the hard work” and adhere to their trainers instructions. “Football is a game of discipline. As players, respect for your coaches and colleagues is key,” he said. He added that the hard work of the girls in recent years is slowly changing the narrative in Sierra Leone’s female football. “Our female teams are no longer underdogs in the sub-region as they used to be,” he claimed.
The National Female U-20 teams trains twice everyday under the direct charge of the Head Coach Victoria Conteh and her back room staff with technical support from Veteran Coach Mr. Amadu ‘Rappel’ Kamara.
Talking to this medium the head coach Victoria Conteh said that, she is currently helping the team to focus and build the mind of the players, skills and fitness because for almost six months football was not playing because of the Coronavirus in the country.
She however said that there had been some improvements in the output of the girls from the day-to-day training sessions. She especially praised the commitment of the girls and described it as ‘unprecedented’.
She added that the players who would form part t of the national team that will participate in the WAFU U-20 Tournament to be hosted by Cape Verde in November will be chosen from the girls currently training.
“we hope to get the best for the country among these girls, and that is why we are putting more effort on them to achieved what is desired from them.”
