Orange Money and Ecobank have on Thursday November 5, 2020, launched a new promotion known as Bank to Wallet at Ecobank’s Lightfoot Boston Street office in Freetown. Through the service, Ecobank customers have the opportunity of using Orange Money to cash out and pay cash in from the bank at ease.
During the launch, Chief Executive Officer Orange Money Sierra Leone, David Mansaray, expressed excitement over what he described as the start of a new chapter in the relations between Ecobank and Orange Money.
He said that the service will improve financial inclusion in the whole of the country, citing that if a customer who lives in Bafodia could not open an account with Ecobank, with the service one could stay in Bafodia, open an account with Ecobank and use the Bank 2 Wallet services easier.
Managing Director Ecobank Sierra Leone, Mrs. Aina Moore, said: “I am very excited about this launching today.”
She added that the promotion will leap Sierra Leonean to a higher level. “We are going to do everything to ensure that more people know about this service in the rural area like David mentioned,” she added, and continued, “We’ll make sure wherever they go they will be able to explain to our customers the value about joining the Bank 2 Wallet services.”
It is a 24 hour service allowing customers to use it at any time of the day.
Abibatu Baxter, Head of Strategic Marketing, Orange Money, explained that electronic wallet is a simple and digital alternative to conduct and manage all your financial service and transactions in your life.
She said that Orange Sierra Leone is used to partnering with other banks, adding that Ecobank is the fourth Bank they have partnered with.
She said that to access the service by transferring money to and from their Orange Money Wallet to their Ecobank Account; firstly, customers must register with Orange Money using short code #144# and select 6, after they would have selected 1&4, then customers should enter their Orange Money secret code then they would receive their activation key via SMS, which will be given by Ecobank.
She said that the key can be activated within a short period of time after receipt, and advised customers to be around the bank, “so when you receive your key you can easily give it to the bank for further directives”.
She further said that the service is very safe to use and did not warrant customers to be educated to be able to use it as everyone could use it easily as long as they have an accounts with Orange and Ecobank.
Head of Consumer Distribution, Ecobank, Sahr Musuyamasu, said the service is very safe and friendly to use, adding that the bank have put everything in place to attract more customers.
