As the National Youth Service (NYS) continues its fourth-quarter monitoring and supervision of the second batch of corps members, the Executive Director of NYS, Mohamed Onanah Jalloh, has called on institutions to strengthen mutual capacity for effective engagement of corps members.
He also called for a better partnership between NYS and other state and non-state institutions to improve the welfare packages for corps members.
He made the calls when NYS visited various government institutions where corps had been deployed.
He said, “The monitoring and supervision is to draw from experiences of corps employers and members to ensure proper use of corps manpower and to appreciate corps employers, identify challenges and proffer solutions.”
Onanah Jalloh said under utilisation, evasion of service and inadequate welfare provisions are some of the challenges that corps members are facing. He noted that the population of corps members would continue to grow which calls for a review in proper management of these corps members.
“To tackle evasion of service, through support from UNFPA, NYS is developing monthly biometrics monitoring of corps members Mobile Apps to serve as a tool to check on them at their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA),” he added.
Employers of corps members at PPA expressed thanks and appreciations to the Executive Director and the entire staff of NYS.
They said their demand for corps members is increasing, hence, they will continue to build on their relationship with NYS.
