Sierra Leone: Entertainer encourages fellow entertainers

Abu Bakar Marah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Team Rooy, an entertainment label in the east of Freetown, has admonished fellow entertainers love one another, support and promote the Sierra Leone entertainment industry to another level.

He said that the absence of love in the industry has slowed its growth and occasioned its current state of backwardness. He added that, Disc Jockeys who are supposed to be agents for promoting the entertainment industry, are immensely contributing to the downfall of the industry by playing foreign music instead of Sierra Leonean songs.

He said some DJs take money in exchange for promoting their songs, but at the end would not deliver on their promise.

CEO explained that he established Rooy entertainment label in 2017 to promote Sierra Leone music after his career in sport as a footballer playing in the first Division in Sierra Leone.

He explained, “After I got injured in football, I entered into the entertainment world and created different unions which were all turn out unsuccessful. After all, I came up with Team Rooy Entertainment in 2017 to 2018 which is now making great changes to the industry and the musicians.”

He said that the label has promoted many musicians who have made it today in the entertainment industry, like the Braves Unit which was consist of Patman, Heaven Jay and Black Smoke now deceased, LXG many others.

He recalled that, the label has been contributing greatly to the communities and the schools in the Rokupa community, adding that, they usually give books and other school learning materials to the pupils in various schools.

He said, “The label has also distributed up to 200 Jerseys to entertainers and fans who usually promote and support Sierra Leone music,” he concluded.
